Bob Supina bought his first Packard, a 1937 Twelve Formal Sedan from a salvage yard in PA in April 1963 for $100.
A few weeks later he went back to the same salvage yard and bought the 1937 Super Eight 7 Passenger Sedan. Obviously, he was now hooked on Packards...
His 3rd was another 1937 sedan that he acquired in 1965, when he lived in Maryland, followed by a 1936 Super Eight limousine which had been originally owned by Sweet Daddy Grace, Baltimore's counterpart to Father Devine of NYC.
In 1968 he sold all his Packards in order to have a hobby farm so that his kids could learn the responsibility of caring for horses, cows, pigs and chickens.
Ten years later, life took another turn and he found his Dream Car, a 1937 Super Eight LeBaron Town Car... a rolling hulk and 3 truck loads of parts. Of course, he needed a complete car to assist in the restoration of the LeBaron, so he acquired a 1937 Super Eight 1500...English...with 8,500 original miles so he could see how to put the LeBaron together.
Also, I knew of a very sad 1937 Twelve Formal Sedan in California that was looling for a new home....soooo.
Bob was not accustomed to reading newspaper classified, but one day his Guardian Angel whispered in his ear..."READ THE PAPER!"
There was an ad for an early 1925 Packard Six in Galveston....so, to make a long story short....Bob bought it...
A year later, he acquired a late1925
Packard Six in South Chicago, IL...and he could not pass it up....
....so now he has what he jokingly calls his 'Twin Sixes'
All the while, he also had a hankering for a convertible sedan, and it just so happened that a fellow club member was selling a mostly original '37 Super Eight convertible sedan...so you know the 'Rest Of The Story...'
The LeBaron has been restored, was on display at the Opus in Warren Ohio in 1999, and will be back in Warren Ohio July 2009 for Opus II. Gail has convinced Bob that Baron needs to be driven and enjoyed, so now he is roadworthy and we are enthralled with driving him.
Somewhere along the line, I noticed a forlorn 1947 Custom Super Clipper at a used car lot. Bob adopted it, kept it for several years, and then passed ownership to another club member.
Is Bob finished buying Packards????
Hardly!
He has two in mind....but will not divulge the details until the owners decide that Bob should be the rightful custodian......so keep checking this web site for developments.......(of course, he has to convince Gail of the NECESSITY!!!)
....THE REST OF THE STORY......
Now, Bob drives the 'Baron' the LeBaron to events, and Gail drives 'Madeleine' the convertible sedan.
